The BLSA Class Agent Program

Job Description: Class Agent

Just as your class officers and class committee led efforts on behalf of your class at Latin School, your alumni class committee continues that leadership role. Class Agents are a crucial conduit between individual classes and the Boston Latin School Association.

Class Agents are the primary liaison between their classmates and BLSA. Their friend-raising and fund-raising efforts enhance a sense of community among their classmates. The Association relies on Class Agents to increase their class' participation levels in financial support and event participation. The overall participation rate is nearly 14% higher in classes with a Class Agent, than those without one, demonstrating the importance of this sort of volunteer leadership. Your efforts as a Class Agent truly impact the level of support directed to Alma Mater.

During reunion years: We ask the Class Agents to expand to encompass a larger group of individuals to accommodate the extra activity that is expected. Past reunion committee and currently inactive student class officers and class committee members are a good place to start. Don't forget about those individuals who have been active participants at BLSA events; they may enjoy connecting with their classmates on behalf of your reunion effort.

  • Act as the voice of their class
  • Set and drive efforts to reach class goals, including event attendance, class gift dollars, and class gift participation
  • Plan and organize class-specific activities
  • Communicate regularly with classmates, encouraging participation in a wide spectrum of BLSA sponsored activities-both in giving and attendance-by mail, e-mail and telephone
  • Provide BLSA staff with updated information on classmates, with special emphasis on finding alumni who are listed as "missing"
  • Offer input on staff-generated communications (direct mail, e-mails, etc.)
  • Organize class volunteers, as needed
  • Make a gift to the Annual Fund
  • Act as hosts at independently coordinated class events and BLSA sponsored events, as needed

For classes with multiple Class Agents, you may wish to divide duties into the following focus areas:

  • Local Alumni Events
  • Regional Alumni Events
  • Class Giving
  • Class Communications

Class Agents can also:

  • Create and send e-mail communications
  • Create and maintain class-specific web pages (working with BLSA staff)
  • Draft written communications, including class directories and direct mail appeals
  • Plan and support activities and events independent of those sponsored by BLSA

Our many thanks to these alumni who continue to show their commitment and dedication to BLS and our alumni association. If you are interested in joining the Class Agents team, contact BLSA Director of Alumni Realtions Linda Glennon or call 617.450.0004 ext. 27.
