SCIENCE DAY
Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 2, 2008 for BLS Science Day! The day includes both the 62nd Science Fair and 3rd annual Science Expo. The Science Fair is where students vie to earn a place at the city and regional competitions. The competition amongst BLS students has heated up since the introduction of the Science Mentor Program. The Mentor Program teams students with professional scientists from the community. The Expo includes many presentations and exhibitions for visitors of all ages. The BLS students lead visitors through a variety of interactive demonstrations designed to showcase some of the scientific principles the students have learned at BLS. The Expo is ideal for families and BLS is handicapped accessible! The Expo will begin at 10:30 a.m. and run until 12:30 p.m. Science fair projects will be open to the public from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Join us for an awards ceremony in the Seevak Room on the third floor at 1:00 p.m. where this year’s keynote speaker, Head Master Lynne Mooney Teta ’86, will address the participants and visitors. Science fair prizes, including the coveted Doc Shea Award for Excellence in Chemistry and Richard Spillane award for Excellence in Physics, will be awarded and our raffle winners will be announced. SCHOOL NEWS

On Wednesday, December 12, C-Span visited Boston Latin School with its Campaign2008 bus. BLS students were featured on the Washington Journal segment where the topic was taxes. The students received this topic with very little warning and were prepared with thoughtful, tough questions in a short period of time. In fact, one student's question was answered with "That's the hardest question you could have asked me." You can view the program on www.c-span.com by clicking on "Most Watched Segments" for Dec. 12. If you wish to fast forward to the BLS section, it begins at 1:33.03, approximately an hour and a half into the show. Eight of 12 Government students were able to ask their questions.

Boston Latin students raised $4,088 for Globe Santa (a new record for the students), up from $3,333 last year and the can/food drive netted over 2,500 cans, roughly 1895 pounds of food. Kudos go to the Wolfpack Volunteers as well as Beth Malone and Christine Feehily in the Main Office for their hard work on this effort to help feed the hungry and homeless in Boston.

And now for your listening pleasure...If you weren't able to attend the holiday concerts in person, visit the Fine Arts website at www.bls.org to listen to all the great sounds of the season.

ALUMNI NEWS

Ed Siegel '65 penned a recent Boston Globe OpEd piece about his beloved New England Patriots and when they first came to town (as the Boston Patriots joining the AFL)...reflecting on a time in the early '60s when the Giants were the popular team in Boston.

POINTS OF PRIDE CONTEST
Our congratulations go out to Richard J. Morrison '70 who knew the correct response to the final question of 2007: A certain Boston landmark was in part funded by donations of citizens from all parts of the state. A list of donors who helped build the monument includes 95 boys of the "Boston Latin Grammar School." What Boston landmark did they help build? It was in fact the Bunker Hill Monument.

January's question:
How many actual schoolhouses has Boston Latin School called "home"? Please provide the number, dates and locations of each.

BLS history buffs seeking a free T-shirt should send responses — including name and class year — magna cum celeritate via e-mail. Note: Alumni may win only once during an academic year.
