375th COMMEMORATIVE BOOK
In conjunction with the school’s 375th anniversary in 2010, the Association will publish a book commemorating the school’s history since its 300th anniversary in 1935. This book will be anything but a dry history. It will be full of the stories and memories that have filled its students’ minds and hearts in the past 75 years. In conjunction with this book we want to list all the teams, clubs, musical organizations and other activities of the school that garnered local, regional, state or national recognition. If you were a member of such an organization, please let us know more about those accomplishments. We don’t want to leave anyone out, so please take a moment and tell us about your group. Send your remembrances to blsa@blsa.org.

BLS’ Youth Climate Action Network (Youth CAN), a student-led initiative, is sponsoring the 2nd Annual Global Climate Change Summit at MIT on May 10, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Summit’s purpose is to inform about global warming; foster student activism and leadership; develop a network that will work together to take action about climate change; and form a coalition of youth and educators to promote climate change education. Alumni are encouraged to take part as well. The 2008 Summit promises an exciting day of speakers, workshops and activities. Mayor Thomas Menino P'85 will open the day, followed by MIT President, Susan Hockfield and a keynote address from Congressman Edward Markey. Morning workshops include topics ranging from environmental law, energy, sustainable living, the science of climate change and more. This year the Summit offers workshops for both students (grades 7-12) and educators (grades 7-12). There will also be an opportunity for Summit participants to pick up packets to apply for Climate Action Grants, as well as join a coalition who will be planning for and hosting a public hearing on making climate change education mandatory at the secondary level. Alumni who are interested in learning about these efforts should contact Cate Arnold, Youth CAN faculty advisor, at catebarnold@aol.com for more information. |
Boston Latin School’s drama company took top honors in the state finals at the Massachusetts High School Drama Festival. The students performed Dan Dietz’s play “Tilt Angel.” The 40-minute play is "a fairy tale about a working class Tennessee family struggling with grief and loss in the aftermath of a plane crash." The West Roxbury Transcript featured Christa Crewdson, BLS drama teacher and director, explaining, “This is like the little show that could. It shows you that you don’t need a lot of bells and whistles to get far in this competition, and the judges saw that in our piece.” The students will have another chance to perform at the New England Drama Festival in Rutledge, VT on April 17.
