FORE CHARITY
For many, spring means a return to the links and Latin School alumni are no exception. A number of alumni are picking up the clubs for good causes this year and helping to organize a variety of charity tournaments in and around Boston.
What better way to support BLS students and athletic programs and to see old friends than the third annual Wolfpack Classic Golf Tournament. The 2007 Classic will be held on Monday, June 18, at the historic Brae Burn Country Club in West Newton beginning at 12 noon. Last year the tournament raised more than $30,000 to benefit BLS athletics, and this year the committee hopes to be even more successful. The 2007 Wolfpack Classic includes a box lunch, 18 holes of golf and a full buffet dinner highlighted by a live auction. Foursomes are priced at $1,000 while individual tickets are $275. For 2007, the Classic will also include a special online pre-tournament auction with some remarkable offerings - click here to visit the website for more information or to register. If you would like to help out the Latin student athletes, please consider donating a unique auction item (Red Sox/Patriot tickets, vacation homes for weekends, etc.), sponsoring a portion of the event or even just playing on this wonderful course,
please e-mail Bruce McKinnon '74 or call (617) 838-4902 to get involved.
This year's Dick Gillooly Memorial Golf Tournament will take place on Friday, May 25, at the George Wright Golf Course in Hyde Park. It will support a new scholarship that has been established at BLS in memory of Richard J. "Dick" Gillooly '68. The scholarship will be awarded annually with preference given to graduating members of the BLS golf team. Organizers of the tournament include Tom Faletra '68, David McDonnell '68 and Jim Gillooly '69. Players, sponsors and donors from the BLS community are most welcome. Please e-mail Jim Gillooly or call (617) 361-2594 for further information.
REUNION 2007: LOOK WHO'S COMING TO DINNER!
Reunion Weekend 2007 is just weeks away and you can see which old friends are already registered by clicking here and selecting the purple "Display Who is Coming" link. You can sort the list alphabetically or by class. If you haven't already made your travel plans, remember that the Boston Park Plaza Hotel room block is good only until April 10 and the number of rooms is limited. You can call the hotel directly at (617) 426-2000.
ANNUAL FUND GIFTS/THANK-A-THONS
BLS students are reaching out to alumni who have previously supported the school through a Thank-a-thon at BLSA to let them know how their Annual Fund gifts have impacted the Latin School experience. Have you received a call yet? This is a wonderful opportunity for current students to connect directly with alumni. If you would like to receive a thank you call, click here to make your Annual Fund gift today.
NETWORKING NIGHT
Looking to connect with others working in real estate, government, finance or high tech? Want to move yourself up that corporate ladder? Then plan to attend BLSA's second annual Alumni Networking Night, hosted once again by Holland + Knight at 10 Saint James Ave. in Boston. This year's event will offer the opportunity to network with alumni of all ages, meet potential employers, access current job postings and hear from a distinguished panel of alumni including James Rooney '75 (Massachusetts Convention Center Authority), Charlie Maneikis '76 (Cornu Management), Sean Keohane '85 (Cabot Corp.) and Charmane Higgins '87 (Boston STRIVE). The cost is just $15 per person or $10 for young alumni (1992 to 2006) and includes a reception. Register early, as space is limited, and check back often for updates to the list of speakers and recruiters. Pre-registration is required to obtain entry to 10 Saint James Ave. Click here to register now.
A CAPITOL RECEPTION
Head Master Cornelia A. Kelley H'44 will make her final official visit to Washington, D.C. on the same site frequented by every president since Theodore Roosevelt, a club that's played host to "kings and queens, prime ministers, premiers, senators, congressmen, cabinet officials, ambassadors, scholars, entertainers, business leaders, and athletes," when the Washington, D.C. Chapter gathers at the National Press Club on Tuesday, April 24, for its annual Alumni Reception. BLSA President David S. Weiner '59 will kick things off in the NPC's Holeman Lounge with an update from the Association. Tickets are just $40 per person (or $35 for young alumni in classes 1992 through 2006) and are available by clicking here.
RECOGNIZING A SPECIAL LEGACY
The members of the Class of 1987 Reunion Committee continue to strive toward their goal of creating an endowment in honor of their class president and friend Julius E. Babbitt '87, a former BLSA Trustee, who succumbed to cancer last April. The committee intends to establish a fund that will honor the memory of this special individual who was also the first African-American to be elected class president in BLS history. It will seek to recognize those BLS students who share Julius' dedication to Alma Mater, tireless community and public service and his ability to inspire others to make the world a better place. Those wishing to assist in this worthy effort should mail contributions to BLSA and note "Julius E. Babbitt Fund" with their gift. For more information, please e-mail Reunion Chair Lou Izzi '87.
ON WITH THE SHOW
Alumni and their families have a special opportunity to take part in one of BLS' most beloved traditions. Music Night - the annual showcase of instrumental and vocal performances - is a perennial sell-out, but BLSA has arranged for special alumni seating and a pre-concert reception at the Longwood Grill on Thursday, April 26. Tickets are just $20 ($10 for students and children.) Click here for tickets, and more information, or here for musical clips from last year's performances.
GOLDEN ALUMNI DO LUNCH
The annual Golden Alumni Luncheon moves back to the city this year, when BLSA President David S. Weiner '59 and Head Master Cornelia A. Kelley H'44 host alumni from the classes 1951 and previous at the Stockyard in Brighton Center on Saturday, May 12. Cocktails begin at 11:30 a.m., with lunch served at 12 noon. Tickets are just $25 each and are available by clicking here.
BLS MUSICAL
Fame may be in the future for some of Latin School's current thespians, too. You can decide for yourself when BLS presents its spring musical, "Fame," May 17 through 20. Watch our website for more information about tickets.

POINTS OF PRIDE CONTEST
It is much to our chagrin that the March question has proven to befuddle even the most stalwart BLS history buffs. We will post that question on the
Points of Pride Hall of Fame webpage for alumni to continue to ponder as we move forward with our contest.
The clocks have changed and the weather is becoming milder. We are happy to report, however, that the links have not yet distracted our resident BLS history guru as the April question comes to us, again, from Assistant Head Master Malcolm Flynn.
April question:
Identify the structure, financed by BLS alumnus John Hancock and friends, designed and built by Lemuel Cox that opened on June 17, 1786 and continued making money for its corporate owners until 1858.
BLS history buffs seeking a free T-shirt should send responses - including name and class year - magna cum celeritate
via e-mail. Note: Alumni may win only once during an academic year.
