Giving at Leadership Levels
As
a student you gave Latin School your hardest work and
greatest passion. You gave of your mind and your heart.
To tell the story of Alma Mater's excellence is to tell
your story.
As
an alumnus you are Latin School's past and present.
Your own experiences and challenges still personify the
excellence that exists at BLS today. Memories of the school
will always evoke great feelings. Today's BLS and her alumni association efforts depend on
you.
As
a parent you see in your son or daughter a transformation
that defines your student's hard work and opens a window
to view the opportunities found at Latin School and support the BLSA mission.
You
can make a difference now.
Your
leadership gifts to BLSA do make a difference. With our
limited unrestricted endowment, annual giving is crucial
to maintaining our intellectual vitality and support of
student and alumni programming.
- BLSA
provides more than $1.6 million in support to Latin School.
Our endowment, while healthy, is primarily restricted
to specific program areas, leaving the BLSA Annual Fund
to help close gaps in current needs at the school.
- New
technology initiatives, tutoring and student academic
support programs, and extracurricular activities like
our J.V. Athletics programs, are all funded (in part or
in whole) by the BLSA Annual Fund.
- Mentoring
programs, such as Saturday Success School, are funded
in large part, each year, through donations to BLSA and
provide an invaluable resource for students who need additional
academic assistance to succeed in our competitive environment.
- BLSA
also provides an array of local and regional alumni event
programming and services which are also made possible
through the generosity of our graduates. These events
provide classmates with the means to stay connected to
each other and Alma Mater.

The Head Masters' Circle
We invite you to become a member of one of our Head Masters' Circle Societies. These individuals lead the way in supporting the mission of the BLSA by making significant, unrestricted current-use gifts each year - gifts that underpin Latin School's ability to sustain excellence as well as build and maintain relationships among its alumni and friends.
The
Head Masters' Circle Societies
$250+:
John Cotton Society (graduates of the last 15 years)
Like the Reverend John Cotton, whose influence was
crucial to the establishment of the Boston Latin School,
this society recognizes young alumni who make leadership
giving a priority in their lives, thus influencing
those who come after them. Membership is given annually
to graduates in the 15 most recent classes who make
gifts of $250 or more within a single year.
$1,000
- 2,499: Philemon Pormort Society The first head
master of the new Boston Latin School in 1635, Master
Pormort held his classes in his home and was dedicated
to educating the children of Boston. This giving society
recognizes those alumni, parents and friends who have
joined this initial leadership giving level because
they, too, believe in providing the tools the children
of Boston need for their education and sustaining the lifelong connection of alumni.
$2,500
- 4,999: Ezekiel Cheever Society In 1670, Master
Cheever became the sixth head master of BLS of whom
Cotton Mather, the renowned divine, once remarked,
"We generally concur in acknowledging that New
England has never known a better teacher." The
individuals who annually provide support at this level
permit today's faculty and staff to offer a
platform of creative thought for Latin's students and meaningful connections among her alumni.
$5,000
- 9,999: Benjamin Apthorp Gould Society Appointed
head master while still a senior at Harvard in 1814,
Gould restored order and scholarship at BLS and fostered
the beginnings of a library. Donors giving at this
level annually recognize the importance of the head
master having the resources to meet the most pressing
and current needs at the school. Their gifts help
to maintain the level of study for which Latin School
is famous and alumni network support that is second to none.
$10,000
- 24,999: Epes Sargent Dixwell Society Beginning
his time as head master in 1836, Dixwell went on to
found the Boston Latin School Association and made
Gould's dream of a library a reality. Donors at this
level are recognized for their generous major gift
commitment to Latin School and their support of BLSA's
mission to establish programmatic opportunities while
building fellowship among students, faculty, alumni,
friends and community partners.
